About Dr Akeel Alisa

Dr Akeel Alisa was awarded his medical degree from the University of Cambridge in 1993. Since 2013, he serves as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust. His postgraduate training included prestigious rotations through leading London teaching hospitals, including King’s College, University College London, and St George’s Hospital, where he gained extensive expertise in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endoscopy and General Medicine.

He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1998 and was later elected a Fellow (FRCP) of the Royal College of Physicians in London. In 2012, he was awarded his Doctorate in Medicine (MD Res) from University College London, in recognition of his research contributions.

Dr Alisa plays a key leadership role within his Trust, currently serving as the Deputy Lead in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. He has previously held the role of Local Lead in Endoscopy Training and has been a faculty member at the St George’s National Endoscopy Training Centre. Dr Alisa has helped countless patients with a wide range of digestive issues from simple to challenging presentations. Be it heartburn, irritable bowel, food allergy, bacterial overgrowth, changes in bowel habit, colitis, liver abnormalities or poor digestion.

Renowned for his endoscopic expertise, Dr Alisa maintains outstanding performance indicators as documented in the National Endoscopy Database (NED). He prioritises safe, efficient and patient-comfort-focused care in procedures such as colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, polyp resection (including endoscopic mucosal resection - EMR) and feeding tube insertion.

Dr Alisa adopts a holistic, patient-centered approach and works collaboratively with a team of expert dietitians and employs advanced diagnostic tools to develop bespoke, comprehensive treatment plans.

Dr Alisa has presented his research at both national and international forums and has authored numerous publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed medical journals.
